• Trust your instincts – if something feels off, it probably is.

Never Share Sensitive Information

• Do not share your home address until you are truly comfortable and sure about someone.
• Never share financial information, bank details, or passwords.
• Avoid sharing your exact workplace location too early.
• Do not send money or accept money from people you have not met in person.

First Meeting Guidelines

• Always meet in public places such as cafes, restaurants, or malls.
• Pick busy locations with good lighting and visible security.
• Avoid meeting at their home or inviting them to yours for the first date.
• Consider popular public spots like Silverbird Cinemas, The Palms, Jabi Lake Mall, and similar venues.

• Check in with them during and after the date.

• Arrange your own transportation to and from the venue.

• Use trusted ride-hailing services like Uber or Bolt.
• Keep your phone charged and have emergency contacts ready.

During the Date

Stay Alert

• Do not leave your drink or food unattended.
• Order your own drinks or meals directly from staff.

Red Flags to Watch For

Be especially cautious if someone:

• Refuses to video call or only wants to meet in private or hidden locations.
• Asks for money, financial assistance, or gifts.
• Pressures you to leave the app immediately and move to another platform.
• Becomes aggressive, controlling, or disrespectful.
• Shares inconsistent information about themselves over time.
• Wants to move too fast, talking about love or commitment very early.
• Makes you feel uncomfortable or unsafe in any way.
• Avoids answering direct questions about their life or background.
• Regularly shares a “sob story” that leads to requests for financial help.

Protect Yourself from Romance Scams

Common Scam Tactics

• Claims to be working overseas (for example on an oil rig, in the military, or as a contractor).
• Professes strong romantic feelings very quickly.
• Constantly has an “emergency” that requires money.
• Sends professional or model‑quality photos that may be stolen.
• Makes excuses for why they cannot meet in person or video call.

Never:

• Send money to someone you have never met in person.
• Share intimate photos or videos that could be used to threaten or blackmail you.
• Give access to your social media accounts or email.
• Provide financial information or join “investment opportunities” pushed by someone you met online.

Digital Safety

Protect Your Privacy

• Use a different profile photo than the ones you use on other social media.
• Avoid enabling your contact on your profile unless you are using it for business purposes.
• Be mindful of what you share in your bio and messages.
• Consider using a secondary phone number or virtual number at first.

Secure Your Account

• Use a strong, unique password for your Love Nigeria account.
• Enable two‑factor authentication if available.
• Log out from shared or public devices after use.
• Do not share your login credentials with anyone.

Report Within the App

If you experience any of the following, please report it:

• Harassment or abusive behavior.
• Suspected fraud or scam attempts.
• Inappropriate or illegal content.
• Someone making you feel threatened or unsafe.

You can report directly in the app:

• Go to the user’s profile.
• Tap the three‑dots menu.
• Select “Report User”.
• Choose a reason and provide any helpful details.

You can also block users who make you uncomfortable so they can no longer contact you.

Sexual Health & Consent

Always Practice Safe Sex

• Use protection to reduce the risk of STIs and unwanted pregnancy.
• Discuss sexual health openly and honestly with potential partners.
• Get tested regularly and encourage partners to do the same.

Consent Is Mandatory

• Consent must be clear, enthusiastic, and ongoing from both sides.
